Trade secret

Dave's Testimonial stated "The shooter solution kit I have is used immediately after parking the gun- I've seen pictures, and it's very green indeed. I don't know if they still sell it, but it might be worth a call. I though tof doing one of my 1919's in green, but I like them black"

Before that, he testified he uses Shooter Solutions kits to great success for his 1919A4's. He said that he knows us guys used to sell an add-on 'kit' for their gray parkerizing kit (zinc), which when then sprayed on following the directions, quickly turns the finish green.
He went on to say he couldn't find it on this website, but has some, but just hasn't tried using it "yet." http://www.shootersolutions.com/allproducts.html"

Since the website will not allow Techshooter, apparently, here is the response to Dave's inquiry:

I hope the below helps for Parkerizing and also creating the DIY green if you wish to do this professionaly, without stepping on any "trade secrets". (however in selling a DIY solution "how to" = one in the same.)

However the secret is the original green was the resultant of a small amount of pigment in the Cosmoline that collected into the structure over time.

The solution then is to put a higher dose into the structure more quickly so there is not a long time involved.

I believe the permanent pigment technique as described by the T&S Manufacturing advertisement for Parkerizing is the best way, and further state the strength of the pigment will be issue number two.

Number three is to get it into there, and - you need to know the skinny on the treatment itself but if you use a better Parkerizing, you can get superior results.

I'm not making a ready-made product at the moment to combine with the Parkerizing Kits.
The secret already on the website was the pigment, so I am not giving out any new secrets I have not already given. (This was the question.)

The next question would be how to do it if you had the product in your hands.

Because yes, you don't want to wait for years to shoot it - some people actually don't want to wait to have it done by someone else, but would rather do it yourself. :)

The nonintrusive technique is rubbing a rugged or industrial (chromate (lead-based) = most permanent) PIGMENT of the selected color into the Parkerizing structure just after the Parkerizing so that the result is right. The more rugged the Parkerizing the better the result (And no worry about rubbing the Parkerizing off.)

Nickel Zinc is best (most rugged - and it is complete) - and also longer lasting and easier to use - no need to "iron" it or fix it later. I consider (My opinion) Nickel Zinc as Parkerizing in the historic sense, Zinc Phosphate blends without Nickel as Zinc phosphating only.

And then finish.

Well, unless it ends up perfect the way you want it the way it is, as mentioned by saki302.

Well, the above is my opinion, keeping in mind ShooterSolutions.com sells finishing, and it you need additional DIY information, that is what Solutions is all about. (Telling you how to DIY is in context with the Shootersolutions quote.)
