Notes: As to background, the G1-FAL in question was treated with the original Moly-Fusion, then with the latest Moly-Fusion water-based (better results) and then that treatment is the baseline for the start of Ken's involvement.
Gun # 1 was Ross G1-FAL. The purpose of this test performed was to determine if the Moly-fusion would protect the barrel from the powder and copper fouling as both will severely affect accuracy.
Ammunition was surplus 7.62x51 Portuguese NATO lot #78-51.
Ross had previously treated the bore with the water based Moly-Fusion. Chrono testing again showed an increase in velocity that returned to pre-treatment levels in a few rounds.
We fired several 20 round magazines using different methods of fire such as timed, rapid, and random. At the end of 100 rounds the rifle was disassembled and the bore visually inspected. Fouling was light with some build-up in the pitted areas. The barrel was cleaned and slight copper fouling was observed in the area of pitting.
The copper fouling was removed and the barrel chemically stripped. It was then treated with the Moly-Fusion Paste and Oil and allowed to set unfired for a week until the next test session.
During the next session 8 20rnd magazines were fired. On the 9th magazine the aluminum WAC action failed at the locking shoulder. This was round 984 fired from the rifle. NO fault of the moly fusion - it is another company's fault (FAL actions should be steel.)
The rifle was disassembled and the bore visually inspected. I was SHOCKED after firing over 180 rounds, the bore appeared to have been fired ONCE! The bore cleared of powder fouling by blowing it clean with a puff of my breath. A bore snake was pulled through with a clean patch attached, and the patch was clean of black residue with it only turning gray. There was no sign of copper fouling in the bore including the pitted area. Cleaning with Sweet's 7.62 copper remover, the patches showed NO copper fouling.
Conclusion:
Moly-Fusion protects the bore from powder fouling and copper fouling. There is no need for coated bullets after using this product to treat the bore. Accuracy remains consistent and is not degraded from fouling
